Copy materials like you always thought you could!
Join us for a workshop on Brock’s potential new fair dealing policy.

WHEN: Thursday, January 24th, 12:30 pm – 1:30 pm
WHERE: TH253 e-classroom
WHO:  Chabriol Colebatch, Brock’s Copyright Coordinator / Legal Advisor

The University is currently considering adopting a new Fair Dealing Policy prepared by the Association of Universities and Colleges of Canada (AUCC). The new policy reflects changes to the law and recent guidance from the Supreme Court of Canada on the scope of the fair dealing exception.  It allows Brock faculty and staff to copy and distribute to students short excerpts of materials for educational purposes and provides guidance as to what is considered a 'short excerpt.'

To help you understand the new policy, and what it will mean for instructors and students, Brock’s Copyright Coordinator / Legal Advisor is presenting a workshop, which will cover:

·        What is now considered ‘fair’  - such as copying one book chapter, one article per journal issue or up to 10% of a work

·        What this means for your course website, course packs and reading lists

·        What your options are if you need to copy outside the scope of the policy

·        How these new rights fit with the Access Copyright licence and other rights under the Copyright Act

·        Who is available to help you if it is all too confusing

No registration required! For further information, contact Chabriol at, x3232.

This workshop is part of an ongoing series of copyright workshops offered by the Centre for Pedagogical Innovation and the James A. Gibson Library.
